Merry Meals, Much Mayhem and Mega Moths!

Listen to Episode 17 Here!

Thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes! And I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations were as blessed as mine.

I finished the Zephyr Shawl for my mother.  What a sight to behold!

For those of you who are closet Scotch tape sniffing addicts like me, there's a group for us.

One of my Christmas gifts included a Majacraft Skeiner which will arrive in February.  Another was a sweater's worth of Malabrigo...oh, let me pause and catch my breath!

And finally I was able to cash in some gifts and put my money on CampKIP!  We'll be taking over Pere Marquette in Grafton, IL on April 6-9, 2011!  It looks like so much fun!  I hope you can join me!

We also hope to attend Stitches South April 14-17, 2011 in Atlanta, GA.

My little Christmas Gnome ornament gave me so much pleasure in the making.  I hope that it will give the recipient, Fiona Duthie, just as much pleasure.

This is the little toy I modeled it from.

I spun and plied the yarn,

and gathered a donation from Petunia, my French Angora for his beard and hair.

So much fun!

If you are in the Southern California area, Fiona will be giving classes in Costa Mesa January 10 and 11, 2011.  Please check out her website for her workshop descriptions.

I was also able to crank out 2 Special Olympics Scarves on my Bond Incredible Sweater Machine!  The red and white is for GA and the blue and turquoise is for TN.

ON MY NEEDLES:

I would love to post a picture of my February Lady Sweater but it is so close to completion now, I am going to make you wait for the "reveal".

TRADING POST:

Up for trade is a Child's approx. size 5-6 hand-knit sweater knit in Northamptons Bulky.

All that is left to finish is the collar and some seaming.  Please present your trades to us via theknitwits@comcast.net or on Ravelry to Thriftyknitter.

IN OUR WINEGLASS:

Layer Cake Shiraz 2009 :  We both gave this two thumbs up.  One thumb for how it tastes and one for how well it goes with chocolate!  And speaking of chocolate, here is the link for Olive and Sinclair Chocolate Co. Nashville's own!

Thank you to everyone who has donated!  And we are always grateful for all our listeners!  We love having you along!!

  1. I have NO idea what people are complaining about with these podcasts being 'too long' ...I mean COME ON...do they only spend 30 minutes knitting or what ??? I like to spend a fair bit of my evening knitting. And the longer your podcast the better. Your podcasts keep me laughing and enjoying myself while I'm knitting (and maybe sipping some wine right along with you!) The length of this current podcast was GREAT. Loved it !! Keep it up and please, ignore people telling you to shorten them. Pause. Play.

  2. I agree. I love your podcast and don't even notice how much time has passed. Keep doing what you guys do best and don't worry about the very very few listeners who complain about time. Your timing is perfect for me.

  3. Love Love Love the podcast! If it were shorter I would be so sad. Use fabric glue on the shawl! I love Aleene's OK to wash-it. Another option is to use matching thread and sew in the end, I'm usually too lazy for this one. Keep podcasting!

  5. I agree - I hate it when a podcast is too short and I have to put down my knitting and put on another one. You guys are great and really give me a good laugh during the day - the sound effects are a plus too! PS - another closing to think about... "Yarn Ova!". Keep up the great work guys!

  7. Wonderful suggestions for wine! I have tried two of the labels you discussed. I had no idea I would be able to knit, listen and get great wine tips. You have got me looking for good chocolate. See what you started. go ahead and podcast for over an hour. We all love it.

  8. By far, my most favorite Podcast, you make me laugh quite a bit on my way to work, I'm always sad when it comes to an end and I have to wait another week for another one. Thanks!

  9. Your podcast has pushed its way to the top of my list every week. Could you make them longer? I love to LOL all by myself in the car! And, yes, that gnome is the cutest thing...is there a pattern available? Keep up the good work. ARRGH!

  10. Love the gnome and the shawl you knit for your mother. How funny that you didn't realize it was lace until it was blocked. Gorgeous!

I did a quick google and found this list of 25 things to do in St. Louis. Could be a start for Rick and the girls to figure out some things they might want to try.

  11. Steve and I are still enjoying the podcast and look forward to every episode. The Zephyr Shawl is beautiful, hope your friend loves it! he gnome is lots of fun!
On the subject of smells we love... when a friend of mine was expecting her 3rd baby, she couldn't get enough of the smell of Earl Grey tea! She had to keep going into the kitchen, removing the caddy lid and taking a sniff! I'm not sure about the sneezing, as time went on, that could have complicated her condition!
Good to have the pirate on Ravelry!
    Happy New Year!!!

  12. Been listening to your podcast. You guys are such a cute couple and are perfect together. I love the humor.

Karyn, it is ok to say NO! I have people ask me to to stuff all the time and I say no. Please use that word and do not let people take advantage of you even the Pastor's mom. I think she was even rude to ask you to knit something for nothing.

  13. Rick, you are killing me! I finally stopped singing "buy yams", and now you will have me singing "malabrigo"!
Carin, can't wait to meet you at Camp Kip.
PS--there are lots of fun "kid " things to do here. The Magic House is a fantastic hands on children's museum, and the City Museum and the Science Center are awesome.

  14. I have been listening to your podcast since I heard the promo on David Reidy's Sticks and String podcast, and I really love it. It never fails to make me laugh out loud! I have just one complaint. For Pete's sake, PLEASE save the chocolate til after the podcast. Your microphone just magnifies the sound, and there are a lot of people (me included) who are really grossed out by the sound of someone eating. Other than that, great job!

  15. I am very happy to hear the chocolate swishing! It makes me head straight to my Christmas chocolate stash!!As you so rightly said, or maybe you didn't actually say this but this is what you meant-life is for the living! Love your show-warm lovely people and so naturally funny. Thanks very much.
